The undergraduate program of the EEE Institute offers advanced training in the field of electrical and electronics engineering based on solid understanding of theory and practical engineering considerations. In 1993, the EEEI was the first department in the College of Engineering to require an undergraduate student project, which was previously an elective.

The EEEI is now on the final stages of the design phase of the EEEI Building 2. The new structure will be built right beside the existing EEE building along Velasquez St. TCGI Engineers were contracted to do the architectural design in late 2008, while construction of the building is targeted to commence middle of the year.

2009 was a productive year for research publications in the EEE Institute with a total of 17 international refereed articles.

Rafael Nestor V. Mantaring, former chairman of the Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) (now the EEE Institute) of the UP College of Engineering and currently the Head of Philippine Design and Engineering of Integrated Microelectronics Inc., will deliver the 25th Distinguished Alumni Lecture on December 14, 2009 8:30am to 11:30am at the UP Engineering Theater.

A paper by Prof. Michael Angelo Pedrasa, "Improved energy services provision through the intelligent control of distributed energy resources," was recently recognized as a finalist in the Best Student Paper award and given the distinction of being a "High Quality Paper" at the recently concluded IEEE Bucharest Power Tech Conference held in Bucharest, Romania last June 2009. The conference is the flagship conference of the IEEE Power & Energy Society in Europe and is held only every two years.

Videophone System on Local Network Developed at Computer Networks Laboratory

Desktop videophones have cut travel costs and improved the productivity of several large com- panies. Because of this, it was predicted that the market for desktop videophones will continue to grow in the coming years. The videophone application of a desktop videophone system - VisioVox - was developed that has an acceptable user Quality of Experience (QoE) by providing high-resolution video and a user-friendly interface compared with commercially available videophones.

C Compiler Backend for the Dual Core Capable DLX Microprocessor

As the demand for faster and more efficient processors increases, different computer architectures are being developed over the past years. Most applications are written in a high level language, so a compiler is necessary to translate the program into a sequence of low-level instructions to be loaded into the targeted processor.

e-tugtog - Accurate Sounds, Minimal Memory while still maintaining a Fast Decoding Process of MP3s

Audio data compression is highly demanded nowadays and the MPEG-1 Layer 3 is one algorithm commonly used for compression of CD quality music. Different decoding algorithms were developed due to the emergence of the MP3 music and were applied to different platforms and processors. A hardware implementation considers the amount of memory available and processing speed.
